# PLOT

> PLOT is a shared, versioned record of claims about nature and of the process behind them: who said what, how they know, how far it has been checked, and what is still open. Every published thing has one permanent address.

## How to read PLOT

- Every address has four formats: `/c/<id>` (HTML), `/c/<id>.json` (versioned JSON, API v1), `/c/<id>.md` (Markdown, best for assistants) and `/c/<id>/embed`. `/c` is a claim, `/n` a next step (a proposal, not a finding), `/p/<slug>` a place summary, `/e/<slug>` a species, habitat or other entity summary.
- Every format carries the same caveats: kind (observed, reported, target, model...), origin (who said it), period, verification (claimed, sourced, reviewed, independently verified) and the number of open questions, plus a `cite_as` line. Repeat the caveats when you repeat the number, and cite the `cite_as` line.
- Reviewed means PLOT checked a claim against its source. It is not independent verification.
- Corrections are new versions at the same address with a reason. A withdrawn address answers 410 with the reason. Add `?release=<edition>` to a claim or next step embed to freeze it to an edition.
- Missing data is missing, not zero. A target is not achieved performance. Co-location is not causation.

A read-only MCP server (Streamable HTTP) is at https://www.plot.eco/mcp with tools for the record (`search_claims`, `get_place`, `explain_claim`, `list_next_steps`) and for how PLOT looked (`get_protocol`, `get_coverage`, `get_sourcing_plan`). Each returns the same records, caveats and `cite_as` as the address formats. Coverage describes how well PLOT has looked, never nature's condition.
